Djokovic Delivers Warning to Jannik Sinner: Suspension Will Hang Over Him Like a "Cloud"
Novak Djokovic has cautioned Jannik Sinner that his three-month ban for doping will linger over his career as a constant shadow – and raised doubts about the timing of the penalty in the previous season.
The Ban Explained
Sinner completed a three-month suspension in early 2025 after the global anti-doping body accepted his explanation that a prohibited performance-enhancing substance, the steroid clostebol, had been ingested unintentionally.
"That cloud will follow him just as the Covid controversy will follow me, for the remainder of our respective careers," Djokovic stated in an interview on Piers Morgan: Uncensored.
"It's just something that, it was so significant, and after such events, with time it may lessen, but I don't think it will disappear. There will inevitably exist a certain group of people that will always try to bring that forward."
The Champion's Viewpoint
Djokovic expressed belief that Sinner, a regular practice partner, "didn't do it on purpose", but he proceeded to question how the player arranged to serve his time without missing a grand slam.
"The absence of openness, the irregularity, the convenient timing of the suspension coming between the slams, so he doesn't miss out the others – it's just it was very, very odd," Djokovic added.
