Operations Recommence at Edinburgh Airport Following Major ATC System Failure
Passenger services have restarted at Scotland's primary international airport following a substantial technical issue at the control tower halted all operations.
All aircraft movements were suspended because of an IT issue that arose around 08:30.
Some passengers found themselves stranded in planes on the runway during the disruption.
Flights Resume with Ongoing Delays
Officials announced at 10:40 that flights had resumed, and expressed gratitude to passengers for their "patience and understanding".
However, ongoing issues are anticipated to persist for some time. Services bound for London Gatwick, Bristol, Amsterdam and Frankfurt have been called off, with many others subject to postponements.
An airport representative had initially projected that dozens of flights could be affected.
"Passengers are advised to contact their airlines for the most up-to-date details on their individual travel plans," was the consistent advice.
Cause of the Chaos
The problem was traced to the widespread suspension to an technical fault with its control tower systems vendor.
Flyers continue to be advised to check the status of their trip before departing to the airport as backlogs are worked through.
