It's difficult for Australia to break new ground.

The greatest achievements have long been mastered.

We're talking about the unit that has claimed seven Cricket World Cups, in addition to another six T20 titles, and previously enjoyed nearly four years unbeaten in 50-over cricket.

The remaining milestones, those for the peak baggers, are what's still available for a team that has accomplished all there is.

The fact it required as late as Sunday's victory by three wickets over India for them to achieve their initial ODI chase above 300, reclaiming their record for the highest in the women's 50-over format, is, frankly, a tribute to the bowling attack that have sported the yellow jersey over the past 50 years.

It is hard for their batters to hold a record if not provided the chance.

Ultimately, the result of Australia allowing 330 runs was skipper Alyssa Healy being given an opportunity to create her newest gem.

Initially recognized as the 19-year-old niece of renowned former Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she debuted in 2010 after Australia failed to win either of the T20 or ODI World Cups held the previous year and has seen it all through 15 successful years since.

Success in the T20 World Cup came three months after her bow and seven international trophies have resulted from 10 tries across formats.

The tough gloveman was in attendance in Derby in 2017 when a semi-final setback by India briefly halted the run of success.

That loss "pushed us to rethink our standards," Healy stated recently.

At the next 50-over World Cup in New Zealand, Healy made 170 against England in the championship match and was named player of the tournament. She made sure her country would not fall short again.

Whether this latest epic knock exceeded that prior achievement is debatable.

Some will argue the argument supporting final game tension. Different voices suggest with the test that comes when facing a record target and a loud pro-India audience of 20,000.

What is certain is this century was much more difficult to anticipate.

The New Zealand onslaught in 2022 occurred when she topped the run-scoring charts, but this innings was preceded by six games in India over the past few weeks in which she had failed to pass 30.

"For those following me in training, it has been a frustrating experience because I feel like I lacked timing at all," said Healy.

"Yet the moment you step out on the field, your competitive instincts kick in and you simply focus on the match."

Healy's competitive nature has consistently been her great strength - and an invaluable trait in replacing legendary former captain Meg Lanning.

She was challenged by India's promising player Kranti Gaud in last month's ODI series, dismissed by the young fast bowler in every game, but this time it merely gave Healy's inspiration.

A single came off the opening delivery and after that the batsman was in motion.

"An opportunity to take the field and lock in a contest with her and merely enjoy the moment in that aspect, somewhat inspired me," commented Healy.

She reached fifty in 35 deliveries - her fastest at the global tournament - and her ton in 84 balls as she attacked short-pitched balls, hitting 21 fours and three sixes.

Once she was dismissed Australia needed 66 more at a run-a-ball - an unconquered height now requiring a leisurely stroll.

"Pursuing 330 is uncharted waters so I am glad we have the assurance to achieve that now," continued Healy.

"Ideally we won't need to repeat it but, if necessary, we know we can achieve it."

Those words will be the final thing rival teams at this championship should hear.

In recent days a belief they will win from any position has only strengthened - this success following win against Pakistan by 107-run victory despite struggling at 76-7 at a certain moment.

Following this Australia face Bangladesh before an encounter with old rivals England in Indore in ten days, by which point a last-four spot may likely be confirmed.

It was in the semi-finals they exited last year's T20 World Cup in a surprising setback by South Africa - an encounter Healy couldn't play because of torn tissue in her foot as she captained her nation for the first time at a major tournament.

So strong is her resolve, she afterwards commented she wished she had played despite the injury.

However although she later admitted those fitness problems have delayed consideration of ending her career, this World Cup is likely to be her last as captain in one-day cricket and she is still to achieve a global event as leader.

Triumph in India would bring her to the top of her last major obstacle.
