The former Liverpool manager says a return to manage Liverpool is conceivable.
The German coach, who left Liverpool in 2024, has suggested that a future comeback is something that could happen. Klopp, after a transformative nine-season tenure featuring Champions League success and the Premier League crown since 1990, has since taken on positions overseeing worldwide football within the Red Bull organization and in an advisory capacity to Germany's league body.
Fan Sentiment and Klopp’s Candid Remarks
Liverpool won the league title in the previous campaign, though countless followers who revere Klopp would be thrilled by the possibility that he may eventually return. Speaking candidly, he explained to the podcast host: “I said I refuse to lead any other side on English soil. Therefore in case it's my former club...absolutely. In theory, it could happen.”
“I’m 58, so the choice could be mine down the line, it's uncertain. Must I choose now? Then I will not coach again. But thank God, I don’t have to do that. I can just see what the future brings.”
What Would Lure Him Back?
When asked about what circumstances would have to unfold to draw him back to the dugout, he confessed he isn't eager to such a return. “I don’t even know exactly, I love what I do right now,” he commented. “I don't crave being a coach; I don’t miss standing during downpours through long matches; I don’t miss going to media briefings repeatedly each week or constant media duties each week.
“I don’t miss the dressing room per se, but sitting in a restaurant with the team talking freely, I appreciate that. With many victories so there was often great spirits around the place. Remaining with me is the captain's chuckle vividly recalled for example.”
Commending Arne Slot
He spoke highly regarding Arne Slot, crediting him for the tweaks that won the league last campaign. Liverpool have lost four consecutive matches in every contest following significant transfers, but he rubbished the notion it could be the start of a downward turn.
“[Liverpool have] an incredible striker such as Wirtz, you will all eat your words with negative comments. He’s an incredible talent. Ekitike, superb talent. They have a strong balanced team. No need for concern about Liverpool, they will be fine.”
Heartfelt Words for the Late Forward
Klopp also spoke emotionally regarding the passing of Jota, a 2020 acquisition in 2020, and the effect at the club. Jota lost his life in a car crash together with his sibling this past summer.
“Who can fill the void of such an individual? It’s not about his on-field talent, it’s the guy he was. I can’t imagine the team environment without him in it. I still cannot speak properly regarding this. A profound tragedy for the entire squad also. No one within the club would cite it as an excuse though it's a fact. Being in that space where his spirit remains. Coping with it emotionally is challenging. Unbearable.”
