The Red Devils Poised to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants
Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.
A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side
Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her contract, has been a prolific goal-getter for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee coup for the Women’s Super League side.
Her exit from Munich was expected since she appeared to be fighting back tears while applauding the German club’s fans after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its leading forwards. According to reports, the formalities for the transfer are now finalised.
Reliable Goal Threat to Boost the Forward Line
The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a major uplift to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been highly reliable with her finishing in the Bundesliga.
- For seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Building Steam at Old Trafford
The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when United appear to be gathering positive momentum.
Their recent on-pitch successes feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the winter break has seen further activity:
- The signing of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.
On the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure commented: “Miyazawa is now a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”
The new defender, having joined from a club in the NWSL, said: “You can feel how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
