This Swine Life: Hog Named Six Seven Pardoned by Miami-Dade Mayor.

It might not have been at the same level as pardoning holiday birds, but the Miami-Dade County mayor had her own ceremonial pardon event this week by formally pardoning the life of a swine named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.

“The swine has done no wrong. Clemency is justified for her. No offenses are on her docket,” stated the mayor in a speech with obvious nods to the extraordinary and sizable number of pardons issued from the start of the beginning of a second term in office.

“If we disregard eating half a dozen apples per day,” she went on. “May this pig enjoy a prosperous future without fear.”

The gathering, which both honors and questions the local cultural practice of eating roast pork during the holidays, was created to mirror the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.

The swine, contributed by a local firefighter, was given its name from the current slang trend of young people yelling “six-seven” – inspired by a rap song lyric – often without clear purpose. The craze became so pervasive that a prominent word reference recently declared “6-7” its top term for the year.

A Peaceful Retirement

This particular pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a countryside refuge “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the ceremony's official statement.

“The annual pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to begin the holiday season,” said the event host, in a particularly upbeat message.

“It embodies the essence of Miami: vibrant, multicultural, and rooted in traditions that unite the community. Each year, we are proud to celebrate tradition and kindness in a way distinctively Miamian.”

Participants enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach fritters and cafecito as they toasted the swine's new lease on life.
